Prayer garden

On Thursday April 10th, Room 4’s sixth class students worked very hard planting, weeding, sweeping and watering flowers in the parish prayer garden.

We joined up with some boys from St. Mary’s to show the community at work in our parish.

There will be a special blessing of this prayer garden on Saturday night after the youth mass at 7pm.

5th class – Canal projects

On Wednesday April 9th our 5th classes took part in our annual ‘Grand Canal’ study with RTE broadcaster; Éanna Ní Lamhna.

We studied the history of canals in Ireland, identified the flora and fauna specific to the canal and performed some scientific investigations to test the levels of pollution in the water.

The results were surprising.

Room 13b’s Secret Garden

There’s a secret garden in Room 13b!

Fourteen children planted about 40 sunflower seeds on March 4th and now the plants are about 30cm tall. Soon it will be time to plant them outside …. but first we have to figure out how to keep the slugs and snails away ….

Room 9 – Learning about tadpoles

Room 9 were learning about tadpoles and newts. ‘Mouse’ brought some into the class.

Everyone had lots of fun learning all about them.

Room 9 – Candle holders

Room 9 were very busy making candle holders by using glass jars and glass paint.

They look great. Well done!

Alan Glynn visits Room 4

Successful author Alan Glynn (and father of  Rory and Cian) visited Room 4 to give a writing workshop and discuss his process of writing with the pupils.

He gave the pupils some great writing tips. They will be using all of these helpful tips to write their own short stories for the short story competition.

The pupils and teachers were able to ask Alan some interesting questions. It was a great pleasure to have Alan visit the class and share his knowledge with us.
