Learning about trees in Room 2

We are learning all about horse chestnut trees. We did an experiment to test how water travels up the tree trunk using pak choi as our example.

Maths Week activities in Room 2

Room 2 took part in a Maths Trail around the school.

On the last day, we had fun table activities too. Well done room 2!

Scientists in Room 1

Room 1 were busy learning all about planet earth and space. We were learning lots of new facts from posters.

We then did some pair work using the ipads and found out some cool facts about the solar system.

We reported our fun facts to our classmates.

Maths Week activities in Room 9

Room 9 had great fun celebrating Maths Week by playing interactive games on the new iPads! We can’t wait to use the iPads throughout the year for lots of different activities.

Picasso Witches in Room 1

In Room 1 we were learning all about Pablo Picasso.

We learned all about his different pieces of art and his cubism style.

Cubism is a style of art which aims to show objects and people from lots of different angles all at one time. This is done through the use of cubes and other shapes.

Take a look at the witches we constructed taking inspiration from Picasso’s cubism style.

Celebrating Maths Week in Room 1

During maths week 2019 we are doing lots of different maths activities.

We went to the computer room this week and worked on some interactive maths skills.

we played games about fractions, number and shape.

It was a great way to do our maths class!

Lines and angles in Room 9

Room 9 were busy measuring angles in their classroom. We used masking tape on the tables to create various angles and then measured these – this was a really fun way to do this lesson! We then created our own in our copies and got our classmates to measure these.

Maths Week trip for Room 1

Room ! were so lucky this week. we went to Dublin’s Marsh’s Library to attend a Lego Puzzles Maths Week activity day.

We worked together to try to solve the lego puzzles using out maths skills.

We even made it to the playground for a quick play!

Thanks so much to Mr. Coghlan for organising this trip for us.

Happy Maths Week 2019 everyone!

September Newsletter by Room 17

We began Fifth Class in Room 17, just over a month ago, after a lovely Summer Break. We have been working really hard and have enjoyed our first month!

We really enjoyed Art, we explored different patterns and we painted some Autumnal Scenes. For PE, we started swimming and we will keep this up during October. For Science, we did two experiments exploring sound travel and insulation. We learned about the mountains, rivers and deserts of the world in Geography and mixed it with Art to make maps of the world. In English, we wrote Recounts of our Summer holidays and we are reading Charlotte’s Web. In History, we learned all about St. Louis in the past, we were shocked to find out that there was a fire before it was a school and that the old caretaker, Mr Cullen, lived up by the offices! We collected data in Maths to make bar charts and found out some interesting things about pupils in our school. We also began using Spellings for Me and enjoyed going to the computer room for testing.

This is some of our favourite work from the month, we hope you enjoy looking at the pictures. We are really looking forward to October, which begins with Friendship Fortnight!

Thanks for reading,
