5th classes took a trip to one of the locks along the Canal last Friday. Stephen from Waterways met us there. We got on one of the boats and travelled through the lock! Stephen is a lock keeper so he is in charge of the gates and locks. He opened up the first gate for the boat to go through and we had to wait for the boat to lower with the water before we passed through the lock completely! It was really interesting!
3rd class had a brilliant school tour to Funtasia this year.
It was a great day!
On Friday Mr. Whelan was teaching 2nd class lots of hurling skills.
The other classes got to use their dodging skills in games of dodge ball.
It was a super end to a busy Active Week!!
On Thursday the pupils took part in lots more fun activities. Some pupils dod some HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) with Ms. Doherty. Some other classes were practicing running drills with Ms. Daniels and others were doing yoga with Mr. Mooney.
The classes were also busy in their own rooms doing 10@10 activities and yoga too.
In the afternoon we all came together in the yard to do a school dance and then we had a dance party.
It was a great day!!
The pupils in 5th class were learning all about our local Grand Canal. Eanna Ní Lamhna came into school and took us on a tour of the canal and told us all about its history, wildlife and plants.
The pupils then has to produce a project all about what they had learned. They worked very hard and Eanna came back into school to choose the winners of the project competition.
The 2nd class pupils had great fun in Woolywards Farm!!
On Wednesday the pupils were taking part in a football skills challenge as well as practicing their cricket skills.
Senior pupils were doing football skills with Room 15. They were practicing skills in penalty taking, headers, dribbling, volleys and passing. It was great fun and it was great to have encouragement from the pupils from Room 15.
Other classes were learning and practicing their cricket skills with Ronnie from Cricket Leinster. It was another great active day!!
On Tuesday all of the pupils were taking part in sports day. We went to Kenilworth Park and took part in lots of different races. We did sprints, relays, potato and spoon races and hopping races. Well done to all the teachers that were involved.
We also took part in Mr. Coghlan’s obstacle course. It was great fun!
When we got back to school some pupils played padel tennis, others practices their school dance and others played badminton.
We were very active on Tuesday!
On Monday all of the pupils were busy with Ultimate Frisbee and Fit4school activities.
Oscar came into the school and taught us ultimate Frisbee lessons. It was something new to learn and it was great fun.
Other pupils were doing different skills in the fit4school programme. They were learning skills in jumping, throwing, catching, skipping and agility. Pupils from Room 15 were helping and encouraging all the classes with these activities. Well done.
In the classroom pupils were doing 10@10 activities and also doing some dance rehearsal getting ready for Thursday’s whole school dance!
As part of out Active Week preparations we are learning different dances.
Room 11 (2nd class) went to Room 15 (5th class) and asked for some help with learning some moves.
It was great fun teaching and learning from each other. Everybody is looking forward to doing it again!
