Each class prepared a piece to perform ‘as Gaeilge’ in Halla Cullen.

We heard poems and songs and we saw lovely dances.

6th class also told us a story and poem about Irish history.

It was a really super day! Well done to everybody involved!

Gaeilge abú!!!

Raising the Irish flag in St. Louis

On the 15th of March 2016, St. Louis SPS and St. Louis Infant School took part in a special ceremony to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the Easter Rising that happened in 1916.

Both schools were presented with a tri-colour Irish flag by some soldiers from Cathal Brugha barracks last year and we raised them together at 12 o’ clock.

Cian and Kate from 6th class read the proclamation to the pupils and everybody sung the national anthem Amhrán na bhFiann together with the help of the St. Louis SPS choir.

It was a great ceremony.

Friendship Fortnight assembly 2015

Friendship fortnight is a time in the school year where all the boys, girls and teachers think about ways to be a better friend.

This year we ended Friendship Fortnight with a super assembly in Halla Cullen. Mr. Mooney and Ms. Biesty created a brilliant assembly that was focussed on what we learned in our classrooms. We got to speak about being better friends and  heard from videos and poems too.

We got to sing friendship songs as a school and we got to see the winners of the poster competition from each class.

It was great fun and we learned a lot – Keep being a good friend everyone!

Thanks to Mr. Mooney and Ms. Biesty!

We got to do lots of different games and activities like rock climbing, group games, capture the flag activity, kayaking, bog jumping and assault course and orienteering.

It was a super fun-filled day!!!!

Grandparent Day 2015

The school celebrated Grandparent Day on Friday 23rd of January.

Lots of grandparents came to the school.

In Room 2 Abby and Ethan’s Granny came to talk about life long ago.

4th class trip to the zoo

On Friday, it was our school tour. We took the bus and went to Dublin Zoo. We had to put on sun cream because it was very sunny! We got a tour around the zoo. We went to the African Plains.

First we saw monkeys, we learned that spider monkeys had special tails. Then we saw the waldrapp ibis. It had an ugly face but a beautiful body. The waldrapp ibis is very endangered.

Then we saw red panda’s , a male and a female. Two of them had babies but they weren’t there because they were sent to another zoo.

Then we saw penguins. They were special penguins. These penguins live in warm places. There were loads more animals. There were elephants, rhinos, gorillas, snakes, tigers, lions, sea lions, flamingos, hippopotamus’, snow leopards, tortoises, okapis, iguanas, wolves and loads more. The youngest animal in the zoo was the giraffe. We went to see more animals.

Then we played in the new playground, Play Forest. We had so much fun. Then we went back to school.

Dissolving Boundaries Face-to-Face in Newry

On the 15th of May Room 7 and Room 16 went to Co. Down. The reason we went is because we were doing Dissolving Boundaries. Dissolving Boundaries is a website to chat, learn and to make friends with children from Northern Ireland.

We travelled by bus and went through Co. Meath and Co. Louth.  Then we crossed the border and finally got to Co. Down.  There we went to a place called Newry Fun House (it’s a lot like SPROI). We went inside and took off our shoes and ran to have some fun. We played for an hour and then ate some food.

After we went back to play. There was musical status, penalty shoot out and dodge ball.  Abigail and Claudia won the musical statues.

After all the fun we had to say goodbye to our friends from Northern Ireland and we hopped on the bus and were off.  We had a really, really fun time and we hope we do it again.
